DURBAN HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATES 150 YEARS OF EXISTENCE

The celebration happened on the 4th of June with the theme ‘Founders Day’, to thank its sponsors, Alumnus; Old boys and Trustees from the School’s Foundation Trust. Old boys from the class of 2015 to the class of 1966 such as the honored guest, Mr Don Speirs attended the event. Durban High School (DHS)’s continuously supported financially by its old boys; who consist of many thousands of school leavers.

The events of the day consisted of electrifying rugby matches with Maritzburg College, and Hockey matches which happened at Riverside. Maritzburg College has being DHS’s first contender for rugby matches since 1910; so it was suitable that they had to celebrate this day with them. Fixtures included teams from under 14 to the 1st team. Other school sports events will take place throughout the year.

Results of the highly anticipated 1st team game; scores began pouring in when Maritzburg scored the 1st penalty, then DHS came through. Couple of minutes later, after much hustling, DHS was silenced by an outstanding try from Maritzburg, and then another one. DHS managed to came back with a classic try,

But Maritzburg ended up winning the game with scores earned from couple of penalties. Fun day though, with enthusiastic young boys supporting their teams. DHS ‘2nd team won the game by 11/10.

“People don’t really care about scores from under 15, 16, what matters is the 1st team. If our team loses then you’ll get a big headline like: DHS Crashes Maritzburg College by so and so points. ” Nigel Sutherland from Maritzburg College.
